Many of the Aurora Division operating employees lived w/in the required
distance of the Aurora Depot long after phones became common. While it was
rare; upon occasion a cab driver would be sent to knock on a door and deliver
a message if no one had answered the phone.
The UTU lodge 171 files contain some interesting episodes of crew calling
incidents.
While only a few duys utilized it......Well into the 1970s there was a
local agreeement that the morning rush hour dinky crews could request a wake
up call, even though they were a regular member of the crew. If the caller
failed to make the call the guy could just roll over and stay in bed and get
paid for the day.
