My ol' "turnip" still keeps accurate time, when I wind it, that is. Obviously
it's a 992B (not a Cat end laoder)and has worked well through some rough RR
years. One time a new, leather strap caught on a wing nut on the alternator
access door on a GP40 as I was makin' my way back ta tend to somethin'. As I
walked the strap stopped the watch from followin' me. The watch pocket was
ripped open, the watch "uncoupled" from the strap and hit the runnin' board and
began ta slide to the edge and, without a well placed boot, would have been
scatered along the ROW between Fairview Ave. and Westmont while travellin' at
"normal" speed. A few dents later, the the timepiece was still on the job.
A couple of pics in the "PHOTOS" section are intended to "memorialize" the "Old
Soldier".
