A Havelock baggage car is on its way to the Illinois Railway museum
(if it's not already there).
This should be a welcome addition for Q fans. It will be used to
hold collections from the Pullman Library, making those collections
safer (from the elements) and more accessible (for staff). It
should, eventually, be put in a position where it can be accessed for
photos and the like.
It is still to be determined WHICH car it is. We have been told that
the car had "963" in the interior, but, given that Havelock cars
started with 990, that makes little sense on the surface. However,
BN MOW used the same lettering for their cars, and many of the
Havelock cars were in BN MOW service, several starting with
"968". Further investigation should reveal the number. It was
originally identified as 993. We originally based the initial
restoration (paint job) based on that number - whether it be SSS or
shadow lined was still to be determined. The formal identification
may well determine the final paint selection.
