Steve,

The "alley" job in Aurora, Illinois was Middle Ave. Which lasted until the
mid 1990's when the last industry on the line the Aurora Beacon News moved the
press operation down to Plainfield, Illinois. Prior to the elevated track
through Aurora, the main line crossed the Fox River just north of North Ave.
Upon crossing the river there was a small yard about 5-6 tracks if I remember,
this small yard was at the south end of Middle Ave.

At the north end of Middle Ave. there was a C&NW freight house, the C&NW
came down from Geneva, Illinois along the Fox River, the alignment along the
river started just north of Fabian Parkway, at the famous Campana Building
which
still stands today. The C&NW switched out industries north of Walnut Street
in Aurora (since 1963 New York Street).

Industry on the Q's Middle Ave. job were starting at the south end, a
warehouse, a meat packer, the newspaper, White and Todd Lumber, Strathmore
(commercial printer), and other small businesses. At the interchange with the
C&NW is
where Middle Ave. stopped. As a small child I remember seeing a C&NW
switcher come down to the freight station and leave cars to go to the Q.

One interesting note, River Street Press a commercial printer that does the
printing for the BRHS, was located in that old meat packing plant. Prior to
River Street Press being in that building it was the Aurora News Agency. ANA,
in years past would drive their truck over to the Q Station on South Broadway
to get the Chicago papers off the Dinky's early in the morning. The ANA also
owned the Naperville News Agency which was located next to the Naperville Q
Station on the south side. That building as far as I know is still there.

Sadly today all that is left of Middle Ave tracks is the bridge structure
across the Fox River (the old main), some sections of track are still in the
street. All of the buildings south of the Beacon News have been razed.
The Beacon News building is now empty.

Hope this helps.....
