Could have sworn I saw one working at that time, but this "Old Man's" memory could be wrong. I was in my late 20's in 1956. I remember looking down from the river bridge and seeing about half the drivers under water as it moved. It probably was earlier than I thought.

Jerry, Better back your memory back about 20 years to the mid 50s. I hired
out in 66 and went through the flood of 73 in Hannibal. No sign of a steam
engine then. In fact, we couldn't use the K line for a few months and had
to detour on the Mopac and N&W out of St. Louis westward or up to Girard,
Ill on the east side where we would pick up Q tracks. 1993 was even worse
as we were out of business many months and had to rebuild a lot of the K
line. Hope this will jog your memory back to the 50s. Where were you in
1956 and how old were you? I'm sure you saw steam on the river bank tracks
because Hannibal would go under at 21.5 feet which was almost an annual
happening. That's probably the major reason the yard was torn out and our
terminal was moved to West Quincy in 1978. Regards, Archie Hayden
