The 700 series cars have the wide scalloped fluting below the lower windows and
between the lower and upper windows. This wide scalloped fluting was generally
the type used on Budd cars below the windows prior to Amtrak.

The newer cars, I believe, have the narrow squared fluting in these places.
This narrower fluting was used above the windows and on the roofs of the
pre-amtrak Budd cars, including the Zephyr cars. It was also used on the roofs
of the 700 series commuter cars.
