In the late 1970's and early 80's I worked for the Aurora News Agency. During
the winter of 78-79 the Burlington could have used a steam engine to melt the
ice on Middle Ave. The Beacon News was the last industry switched on Middle
Ave and on one night they derailed a CP (if I remember correctly) 50 foot
newsprint boxcar while taking it to the Beacon's dock. The derailment was in
front of ANA's rear loading dock. The door was blocked for about 24 hours
while they got the box back on the rails.... the funny thing was they blocked
in a couple of motor route drivers!
