The only regular use of E-units in anything other than emergency freight service when no other power was available did not occur until immediately after the BN merge.  During the spring and early summer of 1970 the 1945 E7s of both the Q and the GN were regularly used in freight service out of Lincoln, primarily to Omaha, Council Bluffs and Pacific Jct.  And of course there was the brief 1967 use of the C&S E5s in freight service between Denver and Pueblo, probably the worst possible route they could have been used on.

How often did the Burlington use passenger E units in freight service? I remember seeing one such occurrence in 1966 or 1967 in Illinois from a DZ dome.  The train the two units pulled consisted of farm equipment on flat cars, so it was probably not too heavy
