David,

From my research, 1602 or 1603, Silver Page and Silver Post, were the two Q RPOs that showed up on the eastbound Empire Builder most commonly. The RPO was on the NCL westbound and there was no RPO on the westbound Builder or eastbound NCL. Depending on timing, the eastbound RPO could end up on the eastbound Afternoon Zephyr as well. I have not seen any indication of the Q adding any storage mail cars to the Builder, NCL or TCZ per the consists I have seen. However, the GN storage mail car did run through more in later years. Earlier it would get to Chicago via the Hiawatha from St. Paul.

As for a model, Walthers makes an RPO in their Mainline series that is pretty darn close. The model has the baggage door set about 5 scale feet inward on the car than the prototype. I picked one up and superdetailed it as the Silver Post for my EB set. I've attached two photos of it. It is Walthers 910-30303. It comes with decals, but I think I used a Microscale set for the Silver Post name since it was truer to size.

Is there a readily available, reasonably accurate HO scale Q RPO that
would be appropriate for the Chicago - St. Paul leg of the Empire
Builder in the 1955-60 era? I just learned that the GN's RPO didn't go
to Chicago, so I need a Q car if I run the train with my Q E units.
Also, did the Q add its own storage mail baggage car ahead of its RPO?
The GNRHS reference sheet doesn't mention it, but I thought I'd ask. If
so, would a shadow-lined Havelock be appropriate?
