That's his arm (s)...That's way those guys sat to look out while the engine was standing still.  Both elbows resting on the window sill pad and forearms and hands out with hands probably folded.

How's that for a little  "speculation"  ???

Pete

Definitely not Cheyenne. I can't think where in Denver passenger trains would be that close to the front range. Interesting that the UP passenger train is running extra. Looks like there may be a flag under the Q engineer's head too or is that his arm?

All - While we continue to digest Hol's "mystery" roundhouse image, here's one both inserted and attached that is unidentified as to date, location and circumstance:

All I can say as a Lines East "flat lander," this image was taken somewhere on Lines West or, perhaps. the UP (note the mountain rising in the background at far right). Is the UP detouring over the Q/CS, or vice-versa? If you look closely at the second person from left in front of the UP baggage car, he appears to be wearing a summer US Army uniform and hat. Could one of the trains shown be a troop train?

I first shared this image with fellow Group member Bill Barber and here are his comments:

Louis,

I am sure that it is before the BN era. The E still has black nose stripes and UP traded in all of the of their F’s by the mid 1960s. It could be somewhere in the Denver area or possibly Cheyenne, although the mountains look too high for that location. The UP train is operating as an extra. The Q E’s may or may not be on a train, but the area on both sides of the Q locomotives look like the ends of a station platform. Denver is the most logical place unless, as you suggest, one train or the other is detouring. The mountains suggest that it is not east of the Denver area, but they appear more like the front range mountains south of Denver. The UP train could be detouring over the Kansas Pacific either eastbound or westbound.

I don't think the location is Denver, at least not downtown Denver, as the location looks relatively rural. Also, only four tracks. Also note the long, unrolled canvas fire hose at far right. Could that be for watering diesels or passenger cars? The only other visual clue is the tall smoke stack just off center with the black band on top. Are there any Lines Westerners in our Group who can tell us what's going on in this image? Best Regards - Louis
