Not sure if this is the same line you were thinking of but the C&NW had a line from Belle Plaine, IA to Consol, IA that was referred to as the Pumpkin Vine.  It crossed the CB&Q at Stark, IA   John B

Peavine and/or pumpkin vine was a common term used by many RR's for meandering lines with branches. In this case, it's CB&Q's lines as mentioned in the review, running between the Chi to Denver and C
