I believe they used the river for a saw mill. There was also a rock quarry and I want to say a water powered mill. It was also a stage coach stop on the route to Galena, IL Brian Durham -- Yahoo! Gro

Bill - The spur ran N/S one block west of Mill St., down the middle of Ewing Street. Once south of Jefferson Ave., the spur curved east, ending-up in the middle of Jackson Ave. then south into lumber
