Union Stations were typically stations served by multiple railroads. Example is the Basic City train station (became Waynesboro) in Virginia. it was a Union Station as it served both N&W and C&O, yet

There is a Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_station but nothing about why Union and not Joint or Amalgamated or Associated or Confederation or another word. I imagine it has to
