Again using R.K. Johnson time books I learned that on a few occasions the Rock Falls job on Tues and Fridays when heading for Eola would "turn" at Earville and/or Somonauk and return to Rockfalls bef

R.K.. Johnson spent the first 7 months of 1952 on the "Moonlight" job(that's what Lew Peshia always called 69/64). Job on duty at Clyde at 7:45PM and returns next day at 7:15PM from Barstow. There's

Pete, Here's my recollection of how doubling hill payments worked back in the day. 25 miles: "from a point to a point and return then to that point." Basically you stall on a hill and double into the

As to the question on the curves in the sheep yard tracks at the west end: my best guess is it's related to where the "lead" coming over Webster St. from the west drops down from the post "elevation"

Doug, Your points are valid. The question was raised because westbound stock was extremely rare. Princeton had a fairly sizeable stock yard for feeders and outbound shipments, which of course by 1956
