Hi Bill,

I have looked extensively at Hank's website.  I have some of them company magazines.

I have also taken a trip to the American Truck Historical Society's library.  I picked up a couple photo and other info on the BTL.  Most of their collection is from non railroad related commercial carriers.

Jim,

No Trailers and related Equipment are listed in the 1960 Equipment Guide. The 1968 Guide which Rupert referred to is the first one I have had access which does. I've attached it to this message. I've also attached the 1969 summary.

I have a July 1963 ORER. The CB&Q did not have a listing for Trailers and Containers. The next ORER I have is July 1965. It does have a Burlington listing. I've attached it.

Doing a quick Internet search, I found the following Burlington Truck Line photos:

<http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/burlington_truck_lines_int_dcof405.html>

A 1964 image. The trailer is a refrigerated van that does show up in the ORER.

Another circa 1964 image. You can make out a few of trailer numbers. Trailer 5905 is not shown in either the ORER or the Equipment Summaries. Trailer 6802 is shown in the ORER and Equipment Summaries. The next trailer to the left looks like it begins with a 5, but the quality is not good enough to be sure.

This one seems to be a 1960 International Harvester publicity photo. Trailer 5899 is not shown in the ORER or Equipment Summaries.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for that info.  Given what I have seen, the CBQZ would cover dry vans, the BMRZ would cover refrigerated trailers and the CBQU would cover containers.  I am not sure about the RQZZ designation though.  Might be a container chassis?

Anything with a Z is typically a trailer while U classifies a container.  Interestingly it still applies to equipment today.  I am not sure what year the Z and U designations began.  My guess would be early 60's.  Most 1950's and earlier photo show 3 or 4 digit trailer numbers without any letters.

Rupert,

I am not sure the listing in the ORER shows all, most or even any of the
equipment assigned that was owned/leased by Burlington Truck Lines. In
working on the wheel reports of the 1960s, there are distinct reporting
marks. CBQZ, BRMZ, CBQU, and RQZZ with it's roster of equipment are
shown in the ORER. BTL equipment I've found is not shown in the ORER. I
also have access to the Ownership of Equipment books and they do not
show the BTL reporting mark trailers/flatbeds.
