You are reminding me of a painful opportunity missed in my youth…
….I went to Brook Park Elementary School in LaGrange Park. One of my classmates was Bob Lucas, whose father had an HO layout in the lower level of his house. I had a vague understanding at the time that his father worked at Simmons-Boardman Publishing, but never realized WHO Walter Lucas was or tried to meet him.
Walter Lucas was a big deal in the railfan community and his collection is at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. He wrote a number of books aimed at Model Railroaders using prototype material gleaned from Simmons-Boardman publications and was a contributor to the RL&HS publications.

Someone sent me a link to a mid-50’s book “100 Years of Railroad Cars” which is available on line.
As well as diagrams of the 1918 USRA cars including the double sheath box cars (XM-24), there is some Burlington related material including scale drawings of a scale car (looks identical to 204739) and a gallery car, and drawings of 1883 RPO number 72 and an 1895 office car
