Tim,

I didn't see a response to your question regarding the name plate on E-5's.  According to Bulletin #10, written by Jim Sandrin and Hol Wagner, there was a sidebar with the following quote:

"Names were dropped from the CB&Q units in 1952-53.  The original C&S and FW&D units - 9950 and 9980 kept their names until retirement."  None of the Q units still carried their names by the time they were sold to the C&S."

This is sooner than I had thought before I looked this up.  I also read that they supposedly flipped the stainless steel name plate so the blank backside showed.  It is said the the Silver Pilot, once it was rescued from Pielet Brothers scrap yard and was donated to IRM, had the plate flipped back to reveal the name .

I do have one question for the group. The cover shows the Morning Zephyr with 9912A in front. It looks like the name plate is blank. Am I seeing this correctly? I've noticed a few other instances of the E5's name plates blank or missing. When and why did the happen?
