Hi all,

Quick update on how the paint chip matching project is going.

See attached photo, but note that while the actual colour and differences between the chips doesn't come out very well in the shot (due to both poor lighting & photography skills), there are some pretty significant differences between each chip, and none of the generic model paint makers make an out-of-the-bottle close match that I have yet found for any of the railroad-specific colours.

Out of respect for the remaining railroad paint manufacturer's businesses, I won't post the full list of generic equivalents here, but if anyone is interested in knowing for personal use what some of the better matches are, do send me a direct email off the list.

I've noted the key ModelFlex and TruColor chips in the photo, they are:

1. MF 16-01 Engine Black
2. MF 16-17 Pullman Green
3. TCP-054 Pullman Green
4. TCP-240 CB&Q Freight Car Red
5. MF 16-15 Maroon Tuscan Oxide
6. MF 16-13 Dark Tuscan Oxide Red
7. MF 16-001 European Dark Red

I find it interesting to note the differences between the interpretation of Mineral red between TruColor and ModelFlex. TCP-240 has the least red, almost a rust or hull red, but browner and darker. MF 16-15 (the BRHS Mineral red suggestion) is actually more red than MF 16-13 (the BRHS Indian Red suggestion). If you put them together, the Indian red is actually in between the two Mineral reds.

So question for anyone here who has been lucky enough to seen the colours in real life:

Which was actually more red? Mineral red or Indian red?

More updates to come!

//Mike

PS there's one other ModelFlex paint in the photo - any guess?
