What you need is a copy of "Schedule of Mail Routes"  Sixth Division Postal Transportation Service  Ill and Iowa

These sometimes show up at Train Shows that have dealers in OLD paper

I have a copy for Feb. 1, 1952  It lists sorting routes  RPO(Rail Post Office) HPO(Highway Post Office)   Truck routes (no sorting) SR  (Star Route) ( stopped at every post office over a set route and schedule) Closed Pouch (Locked mail bags)

As a young shaver I would ride with my Dad on a Star Route in Michigan.  White Pigeon to Kalamazoo with stops at five or six towns on the way up and return when we got back to White Pigeon we had mail bags to connect with the HPO (A large bus type body) Chicago to Detroit.
