As one of the webmaster for the Burlington Route Historical
Society, I have sang this same song for years.
I would like to suggest that the BRHS as a place that welcomes
contributions of photos and documents of all kinds. This is a place
that is focused on preserving and sharing its historical CB&Q
information. In its stewardship role the BRHS has a climate
controlled archives building to store and preserve documents of all
sizes.
Sharing is also a key job, and that is done with our website. We
have over 40,000 photos that are part of a searchable database, a
detailed searchable steam roster, hundreds of modeling photos and
resources, over 2,000 historical articles, an extensive amount of
rail network information including a large station database,
alignment charts, line segment charts of the whole railroad, maps,
industries, timetables and much much more. Nearly all of it has come
from contributors.
The BRHS website is quite big. Much bigger than most people realize.
Currently it has over 335 GB of CB&Q files and
information - and growing. It has over 700 easy to navigate
web pages. Of course, nearly everything we get our hands on is
on-line and available to BRHS members.

Many years ago William Edson spent untold hours
copying the valuation sections and sold them for I think
$10 for each group. He put them together by road if big
enough, or states or regions etc about 100 pages each.
However he made a critical mistake by not keeping a
master set to copy each time but just recopied the last
set. Copiers by design enlarge at least 1% to account
for minor paper feed variations. Over time some grew to
being off the edge or otherwise distorted. Most all are
still usable but sometimes frustrating. I was gifted a
set of copies by Eric Lombard who uses them in his
freight car work. I put copies up in dropbox of the
entire group. Here is the link--
All are bookmarked so be sure to enable bookmarks in
your viewer for easier use. Many roads will be hard to
find but there are a couple of indexes that will give
the book number (an S#). People often overlook the first
few pages but they have a lot of useful overview info
like interchanges, ballast info etc. When viewing a road
go through all the pages as often there will be separate
pages at the end for rented or unallocated equipment and
other things.
Wish someone would get all the Barger dgms books
digitized!! Please, I encourage everyone as a 2026

Bob mentioned paper is going away and I can tell you in
some cases rapidly.
