On Tuesday, Corey Bonsall posted information on his 3D printed C&S drop-bottom gondolas. I ordered two kits, and they were shipped the same day. I received them yesterday and was very impressed with the quality of the cars. I've attached the pictures below showing the as-received body. The one-piece body has been executed with very thin walls and no visible striations that marred earlier printed cars I've seen. The rivets and ribs are nicely done, and the main brake components are molded on the underbody, ready for piping. I'm am absolutely impressed the 3D printing capabilities we're seeing. It seems the perfect way to model prototypes that would otherwise have limited commercial potential. It seems to me that this technology has an advantage over resin kits, as no built-up master is necessary, and there is no need for molds to cast them. Thanks to Corey for making this neat kit that represents a otherwise unavailable series. It's an opportunity to add a different type of gondola to mix with the resin GS-5/7/8 that are available.
