John,

Given the situation you describe Im not sure the book”Burlington Route” by Overton is what your friend Rich would read. There aren’t many pictures and it is a corporate history which is a great read but not exactly a walk in the park. It is an excellent book(I have 2 copies in my library). There’s a copy on eBay now.

Go to the BRHS site Burlingtonroute.org and click on the company store link. Go to our publications,Bulletins and order Bulletin #23 which is on the RR and Burlington,IA. Our company store will have it to you in just a few days. There are other Bulletins that may also meet the need like the ones on shovelnose locos, the K line and others.

As to books look for photo books by Morning Sun on the Burlington. They are on eBay from time to time. There are a couple different series by Mike Spoor and others.
Also i think Rons books site has a copy of one or two of Mikes books in its used book section.

Also on eBay or at Rons books look for “Steam locomotives of the Burlington” and/or the“Burlington in Transistion”.These are 1960s mostly photo books, are by highly rated Burlington historians that sell for just a few $s anymore as they are black and white photos.

Hello,

This is not a post asking for free stuff or to donate anything, just looking for links to books and possibly some HO Scale trains and Cars.

I have a good friend who used to be the owner of the Hobbycraft in Burlington, Iowa, Richard "Rich" Hood. He has been a massive CB&Q/and Burlington fan for decades (Afterall, Burlington, Iowa, was end of the Mark Twain Zephyr from Saint Louis, Missouri among other things :D ). Unfortunately he had to close the, Hobbycraft store a few years ago due to business conditions and age, and that was a deep shame as I had been going to the Hobbycraft for decades as a gamer and mini war game player. Rich in the last year has had to be moved up to Cedar Rapids and is in a nursing home now in a memory unit, and he lost everything, trains, books, everything...

I am writing to ask for some help in finding some books and small things I can get for him to help brighten up his room and make him feel more comfortable and bring back memories of his love for railroading, the CB&Q/Burlington Route, and of course his passion Narrow Gauge. If you could help out by  providing any links or books/HO Scale models that I could get for him that would be fantastic! I grew up in Burlington, and Rich was a big help in getting me straightened out and becoming successful in life. I may not be a huge railroad nerd, but I know that it was a huge passion of a good friend who did a lot of good from my perspective.

Thank You for any help you can provide and I wish you a wonderful day.

Very Respectfully,
John "Darth Vader" Bonar
