[CBQ] Detail parts for a Proto 2000 SD9

Total diesel ignoramus here...

 

I've decided to add some early diesels to my HO layout, starting with a Proto 2000 SD9. This is a loco from before Walthers took over Life-Like.

 

The model came with a small packet of detail parts. The instructions list a steam generator, winterization hatch and sunshades as items that go on the Burlington SD9. Great!

 

The sunshades are almost obvious. It appears they always had the extended windows (or whatever they're called) with them, right?

 

The winterization hatch is obvious too, but where exactly does it go, and which way does it face? Does it go over one of the fans? The grille is offset to one end of the hatch; does the grill go towards the back or the front of the unit?

 

I'm totally clueless on the steam generator. Is there an exhaust stack of some sort that goes somewhere? 

 

I can't find a good view of the top of a Burlington SD9, let alone one that labels all these items. I sure could use some help understanding these things, and any sort of diagram or photos would be fantastic!
