Tom,

It’s been 45 years since I’ve been past Oliver so I cant say for certain just how the siding looked back then. But probably was as shown. I do recall that not only the car we picked up but also cars at the peat moss plant we passed on through trains, were the largest high cube box cars the car distributor could find for the shipper. The product is light so you cube out long before you weight out.
Probably in 60’s the cars likely would have been double door 50 footers.

As shown in your track diagrams I would encourage you to include Ayers(the Milw road branch junction),Lass(the line to Garden Plain), and Denrock with the big curves, long wye, passing and storage tracks and the line heading over towards Sterling/Rockfalls. All these points would generate lots of interesting operations even if they are just staged. But having the Milw. Nitrin turn run between Ayers and Ebner would be a nice addition to operations.

Bud can add far more details as this was part of his operating territory. Aurora crews were just visitors, but on a regular basis.

The stretch between Savanna/Ayers and Ebner had far more lines than most Q fans know about. I recommend Buds book on the Peavine or older track diagram books.
It’s really enlightening to learn how many lines were there back in the day.

Also depending on your exact time frame the lines from Plum River into Savanna didn’t always look like what’s shown on your track diagram. The Galesburg line was separate and parallel to the Aurora line between those points. I don’t know the exact year it was made single track but likely was tied to CTC installation on the C&I.

Leo
