Thread-topic: [CBQ] what version is the 9400 series switch engines

I just searched the Walthers site and couldn’t find the NW2 link. What’s the direct URL?

CB&Q 9400A, the former EMD TR2A demo, would be the only 9400-series loco the Walthers model would work for.  It was a Phase III NW2 built in 10/47.  The remaining CB&Q 9400s were all Phase V NW2s built in 1949, which eliminated the flat part of the hood in front of the cab and the "falsies" on the frame.  Compare the 9400A in the first pic to the 9412B and 9401A in the second pic:

The Walthers model would work for CB&Q 9203-9219 which were Phase I NW2s, and 9220-9247 which were Phase II.  CB&Q 9248 would have been a Phase V.

Good discussion of NW2 "phases" in X2200S #41.

Walthers is taking reservations for a retooled NW2. They are offering an undecorated version which can be used to make phase I,II,III or IV. Is this a model I could use to make a 9400 series engine? I have fond memories of three unit sets working in the twin cities and would like to model a set.
