An interesting story about "Limiteds" of this era. As noted previously, these trains had very few stops, and only in the larger cities. I think McCook ? would have been the smallest city.
But, these trains did make unscheduled stops to take on passengers. In one such case, my mother, who was born and raised in Earlville, IL (about 10 miles east of Mendota), came down with a case of appendicitis. Her father flagged down the train in Earlville, and they rode to Aurora, IL, which had the closest hospital. After detraining, they took a long streetcar ride to Copley Hospital. She survived and lived to 92. I recall that it would have been a daytime train, around 10AM Earlville time. _._,_._,_
