I don’t pretend to know just too much about work trains other than I don’t think there was a standard one. Each would have been assembled depending on the work to be done, the equipment needed for the task, number of workers required, the number of days it was likely to take, the distance to the nearest town, plus issues such as accommodation, cooking and feeding.

There are plenty of photos of work trains in the Company Service and MoW albums in the Flickr Collection, accessible through the BRHS web site.

I have an interest in putting together a Q work train also. I like modeling the transition era, so not sure exactly how many, if any, work trains were still in existence. Would be interested in work train make-up and photos.
