I have another wigwag (WRRS AutoFlag #5) motor that I have restored and I wanted to model it after some of the wigwags on the Burlington Route that ran through southern Iowa. The style that I am trying to imitate were like the wigwags in Lucas and Chariton Iowa. They were the type of wigwag that was mounted to the top of a mast and would in a diamond-shaped frame called harps. Sometimes, they were mounted in the center of a road with little red marker lights lit all the time to guide traffic past them. while the ones mounted off the side of the road did not have the red marker lights. What I am trying to find out is the placement of the bells if any. I know the one in Lucas, Iowa did not have a bell (this was sometimes done in rural areas). Usually, the ones in town did have bells on them. I am trying to find out if they did not have a bell or, if they did, were the bells were mounted on the very top of the signal's harps, or mounted to the mast below the wigwag. I have not been able to get a picture of the two streets in Chariton. They were Linden and Braden Streets which were just 1 block west of the town square. If anyone has a photo or a personal recollection, I would really appreciate hearing from you. I asked the wigwag IO group but never got a response. I was hoping someone could help me with this.
