Tom,
The LMB models of the Q S1a or S2a 4-6-2s and the O1a 2-8-2s, were manufactured in an era when most models weren’t really locomotive number specific. Essentially, they were generic models of two classes of Q locomotives. Using available brass castings and some modification work, one could modify the LMB models to represent a specific locomotive at a certain period of time. The sloped tender coal bunker side sheets on the 4960 in later years, was a modification made to many of the O1as during the very late 1940s and early 1950s as these locomotives were downgraded from road freight service. Attached is a photo that I just posted to the BRHS members only Flickr collection showing the 4960 in freight service, before it was downgraded and became a fan trip queen, with straight coal bunker side sheets.
