Henry County Heritage Trust and Henry County Conservation met with the owner of the building this morning that contains the Oakland Mills depot/shelter. We believe that in addition to the roof, most of the entire structure exists in what was last a restaurant and previously a general store. The outside wall has evidence that battens have been removed. The inside photo shows the side next to the ladies in the old picture. The conservation board has to approve the project and the director wants to locate the shelter on county property close to where it originally was. The Henry County Preservation Board will also be asked to get involved as well as the building trades class at Mt. Pleasant Community High School. There may also be State of Iowa grants available. As it turns out, we now know that four depots exist on the other K-Line from Keokuk to Mt. Pleasant. The other three are Keokuk Union, Donnellson and Hamill. The others are in Lee County.
