Don,

Chinese red first appeared in 1959. Hood units in the new color began to appear 
immediately. Per BRHS Bulletin No. 10, the E units started to receive red nose 
stripes and, eventually faux side grills on each side of the Mars light, about 
the same time. All E units were repainted within the next two years.
