Doug,

If a BRHS member has the equipment, time & talent to do so and volunteers then they will. Once filmed they would be loaded to the BRHS members only section of the BRHS website as one more benefit of membership.

After a 21 month gap caused by Covid there are two Burlington Route Historical Society presentations scheduled. All are welcome to attend.

1)”Q” Congress Park Operations 1945-1970. Learn details of how the Q and IHB handled 300 plus cars a day between them at this small location. Then you will gain insights into what terms like “West Time”, “Digging Potatoes”,”Scooping Sugar”, “Saving the air” “Congo”and others meant to the employees. While you’ll learn how well the movements were co-ordinated you’ll also have insights into what happened when things didn’t go according to plan.
Sponsored by the Railroad and Short Lines Club of Chicago. Date is Friday Nov 19th. Time is 7:30 P.M. Location is Chicago Union Station,Amtrak conference room, room 107A. Plan on an hour and a half presentation length. Use the Jackson St. entrance. Turn left and go up the few steps to the glass door or from the Grand hall waiting room walk to the far Southern edge, go up the stairs to the glass door. If no one is manning the door use the phone on the wall and someone will come open the door.
Currently the State of Illinois and Amtrak are requiring face masks for the event.

2) “The Fox River Branch history and operations”with special focus on the Q owned gravel pits at Sheridan and Yagan Pit as well as the short line connections of Illinois Midland and the Fox and Illinois Union railroads. Learn how this branch line was in all respects a heavy haul operation with hundreds of cars of silica sand, gravel and general freight handled each day.
Sponsored by the Sheridan,IL Historical Society, Saturday Nov 27th at 1:00PM. Location will be the Sheridan fire barn, 405 N Bushnell St. Sheridan,IL.There is a free will donation to the Sheridan H.S. At the door.

The BRHS company store will be at each event offering sales of our Burlington Bulletin Publications and membership information.

Leo Phillipp
BRHS Board member and VP Outreach & Education
