A friend has a LokProgrammer and used it to remap his Rapido SP and SOO SW1200s. He offered to do the same for my CB&Q SW1200, so we did that yesterday. It is possible to add the A125 and/or A200 sound files without overwriting the Rapido
decoder software with the full Loksound if you have access to the LokProgrammer. Read the Rapido decoder using LokProgrammer and save it to your computer. Download the full Loksound 5 file to you computer, select the horn you want, and overwrite the file to
Rapido program horn files you don’t want. Then select that horn file and run the SW1200 on a programming track from LokProgrammer interface to be sure it works. If all is well, load the modified Rapido file into the Rapido decoder.
My friend prefers to have the brake on F5, while Rapido put in on F10. Using the LokProgrammer, it’s easy to swap those two function numbers using the remapping features of the software.
Using the LokProgrammer makes it possible to add sounds and alter the function map without overwriting the Rapido decoder with the ESU full version of the SW1200 file. We also changed the prime mover sounds from the 567A to 5667C as Bill
suggested.
Decoder Pro by JMRI is a free download for saving and managing your decoder files. LokProgrammer allows you to save the full CV list of any decoder file to disk as a backup. You can import that list into Decoder Pro, and open a new file
for the SW1200, then tweak your CVs for the SW1200 or any locomotive you’ve loaded into Decoder Pro. This allows you to set braking and momentum parameters, start voltage, adjust speed tables, control sound volumes individually, or any other CVs you want to
adjust, while watching and listening to the effect on the locomotive in real time. If you lose your decoder program for some reason, e.g. a current spike, you can simply reload the program from Decoder Pro.
Besides all this, Decoder Pro is great way to keep track of your roster by type locomotive, road number, decoder type, and any other parameter you wish to include for your roster.
