Tom,

I would expect that any assigned Monon covered hopper loaded with sand from Ottawa would be expected to move back to a point on the Monon via either the CB&Q or the RI. Reading through the car directive information in the Mark Rickert posted Monon file indicates that the 1958 cuft covered hoppers were in constant short supply and the railroad tried to be keep them online as much as possible.

It also should be noted in the CB&Q equipment assignment list (recently offered by the BRHS Archives) for May 1968 that no Monon owned or leased equipment were assigned to any points on the CB&Q.

Bill,

Thanks for putting the spreadsheet together. Anyone know what an assignment to "CB&Q/RI Sand Brokers" means? Does this mean that these cars could potentially go to any sand producer on the Q system? If so I would think they might have ended up at the National Silica plant in Oregon, IL.
