Northern Railroad is planning a tour to update communities along the
train’s original route on the restoration project and to seek out people

TREGO, Wis. — The Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad is planning an outreach tour along the original route of the Mark Twain Zephyr in July, visiting communities in western Illinois, eastern Iowa, and Missouri to seek out people who rode or worked on the train, and to provide updates on the progress in restoring the historic former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy streamliner. Wisconsin Great Northern’s Director of Passenger Development, Robert
Tabern, will be visiting a series of communities, giving presentations
about the history of the train and updates on its restoration by the
railroad. He also will be selling and signing copies of his three-volume
book, At the same time, he will be looking to interview people who have memories or riding or working on the train between 1935 and 1958, as part of a project to preserve the legacy of the train. Those interested in being interviewed should contact Tabern at rtabern@spoonertrainride.com Restoration of the Zephyr, which began late last year after the Wisconsin Great Northern acquired the trainset which had sat idle for 60 years, continues with the goal of returning the train to operation at the railroad. Scheduled stops on the tour are: Saturday, July 17 Burlington, Iowa Sunday, July 18 Monday, July 19 Keokuk, Iowa Tuesday, July 20 Quincy, Ill. Wednesday, July 21 Hannibal, Mo.
