Jim:
So much for my "certainty on my part that the Q never tested the SD45 demonstrators." Thanks for remembering Ran Varney's photos of the trio on eastbound No. 80 at Broken Bow -- and
thanks for covering my forgetfulness. But forgetfulness is what it was, since I was the one who chose to use the two photos in the dynamometer car feature in Burlington Bulletin No. 24. For those who don't have BB24 or Corbin's
Burlington in Transition, I'm attaching the two photos, which were taken on April Fool's Day 1967. Just why the Q was testing the SD45s at this time is something of a mystery, as the railroad had already bought U25Cs in 1965 and U28Cs in 1966 and was
quite happy with them, and it was January 1969 before they finally took delivery of SD45s 516-530.

That photo is also on the rear cover of Bulletin 24 – Dynamometers.

There is at least one recorded run of the SD45 demos on the Q. On page 202 of the "Burlington in Transition" book, is a shot by Ran Varney of Broken Bow He shot the trio with Dynamometer Car 30 rolling through Broken Bow on train 80 on April 1, 1967. This
was during Hol's army tour so no one kept him up to date on that one. Jim Sandrin
