The horns and trucks are silver - not black - they're covered with soot and grime. The F's were not brand new when the CZ was inaugurated, but we're over a year old. They were assigned to the Expo Flyer when new to test the potential CZ schedule. 

The page 28 photos clearly show the accumulation of diesel exhaust and track dust from the year of use.

I know the Q had 3 sets of F3's to pull the CZ in the early years, numbers 9960, 9961 and 9962.There is a photo in Karl Zimmermann's book, "The Story of the California Zephyr", page 28 that show what appears to be black trucks and perhaps black horns. Can anyone confirm that the early versions of these F3's had black trucks? And if so, when did they change it to silver?
