Dave,

From first hand experience it was post 1985 as that’s when I again started riding dinkies from So Broadway station and the tower was still active. There’s a picture on RR archives with my pickup parked at the depot dated 4/29/85 so it was after that date.

Charlie Volker told me he lined the last dinky into the Aurora depot coach yard from the tower. He could answer if you can reach him. I would also think Dan Holbrook could answer.
