[CBQ] Changes to Zephyr Delivery

To All,
Zephyr 81 has now been released to the membership through the Members Only area of the web site at www.burlingtonroute.org.  To view it, enter the Members Only are, choose "Link to BRHS Resources" and in a new area at the top of the page, you will see Zephyr 81.  If you have kept your email address up to date, you have access to it.  If you have not kept your email address current, you may do so in the log in procedure.  You have the ability and opportunity to keep your membership information current each time you enter the web site.

Unfortunately, this process of distributing the Zephyr electronically has been met with a couple of issues as would be expected anytime that you initiate something new. This distribution personally greets each member and shows your membership status, address and phone.  We are aware and are working to fix the snafu with the membership status, address and phone.  Your information in the data base has not been compromised, only a glitch in the transfer on each individual email.  It will be fixed soon if not already.  To those of you who have sent in messages regarding the availability of printed vs. electronic copies, a letter was sent to all members with the last mailing explaining the changes and the process of how it will be utilized as follows:

NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS – CHANGES TO ZEPHYR & BULLETIN PUBLICATIONS

 

Effective March 1, 2020

 

At the Annual Meeting in Sandwich, IL a presentation was made on a planned change in how the membership receives the Zephyr. The Board of Directors has been working on this plan for over a year and after a resounding approval of the members present at that meeting, it has been decided to move forward with the plan. The plan consists of three parts; the Zephyr, the Bulletin and membership renewal. Through the information gathered in the online data base, it has been determined that well over 80% of our membership is connected to the internet with email addresses. Our future involves capturing the internet user as a way to survive in the electronic age. To carry out this plan, the a fore mentioned publications will be impacted and you, the member, will receive more value for your BRHS membership!

 

First, the Zephyr will no longer be a slick glossy publication. It will become an electronic newsletter in a consistent format to tell you of coming events, interesting facts, system news, preservation efforts, modeling content, new products and the current business of the BRHS. It will be delivered in a PDF format to be electronically archived and/or printed on 8 ½ by 11 paper by you. Thanks to Conductor Club members Derek and Stephanie Dawdy for accepting the challenge to be the new Zephyr Editors to facilitate this change! The new Zephyr format will be initially published 3 times annually, and advance to 4 or more times annually! For those that do not have computer/internet access, the printed form on the back of this notice must be submitted in order for you to receive a printed copy of the Zephyr on plain, folded, stapled and sealed paper. It will not be in an envelope, but have the address information printed on the back page (outside) of the issue.

 

Second, this past year membership received three Bulletins, two scheduled issues and one extra issue in recognition of our 40^th Anniversary. By freeing Editor Dave Lotz from two different types of publications, this change will allow the BRHS to publish three Bulletins annually! Currently enough material is available to carry us forward 6 to 7 years, with more material being written and provided to us by members and the Archives. The membership will receive more of the quality information you have come to enjoy, and then some!

 

Third, VP of Membership Dan Hollis and Jack Schroeder, will be utilizing our data base to enable the BRHS to send out renewal notices electronically. The details of this process are not quite finalized as yet, but will be completed in the very near future. These electronic changes and improvements will allow us to improve the quality and content of the Bulletins, while providing current and upcoming news more efficiently via the electronic Zephyr and a more efficient and effective renewal system.
