If you do not have it, get Linn Westcott's book about John Allen and the G&D. I've read it several times. A lot of the modeling and concepts still stand up today. And as I looked over the plan again in the book, I began to realize that G&D was not as big as one perceives. This is a real credit to John's photo and modeling work. Yes there is some fantasy and whimsy, but the photo and modeling work is superb.

There is a chapter in the book detailing John's up and downs in working on his model railroad hobby. The thoughts and actions are applicable to many things. I have referenced that chapter to friends many times when they get discouraged/burned out about their hobby or interest. You see how a documented hiatus rejuvenated John and help him get back on track.
