I found out that I was there taking photos on the same day. Dump trucks with flanged wheels were already backing over the bridge into Illinois to rebuild a ROW that had been washed out when the levees breached. I was unemployed at the time and a couple of months later I was working for Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management as a Disaster Project Specialist and I was a state counterpart to FEMA. I did get to help get funding for a steam locomotive, but not this one. The FEMA historian contacted me and asked if I knew anything about a steam locomotive in Fort Madison. I responded with everything they never knew about that class of locomotive. It was owned by the City of Fort Madison and maintained by the North Lee County Historical Society and they had been keeping the locomotive journals lubed. FEMA paid to have it cleaned and redone.
