[CBQ] Kable Brothers Plant

I'm hoping someone (Steve Holding?) might be able to help me out.  When looking in the Zephyr that featured Steve's article on Kable Brothers the earlier picture of the plant shows the first addition towards the back with a black roof.  In a 1948 photo, after they added on to the building substantially, the roof appears to be gray.  Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to what type of roofing might have been use on new construction around 1948?  My friend is starting to finish the model he built for me and we're trying to get the color right.
