Ed,

There were three series of boxcars by the early-mid 1960s in the 7000 series. Each were forty foot boxcars. They were dwindling rapidly in the early 1960s. This is what I have from my own collected roster:

7000-7189 XM. 40' Single Sheathed Box w/12' Door Opening. Class XA-13. Built 1930 by PSC as Series #40000-40199. Renumbered 1934 when equipped w/auto racks. Auto racks removed beginning 1951 and renumbered to current series. IH 9' 8". End Door A End. Series #7000-7189. One car on roster in January 1966 ORER. 34 Cars Listed From Series #7000-7488 in July 1963 ORER. Photo in Railway Prototype Cyclopedia Vol 12 on p77 (car 7116).
7190-7488 XM. 40' Single Sheathed Box w/12' Door Opening. Class XA-12. Built 1930 by PSC as Series #40200-40499. Renumbered to Series #47190-47488 when equipped w/auto racks. Renumbered 1950s when auto racks removed. IH 9' 8".  No cars on roster in January 1966 ORER. 34 Cars Listed From Series #7000-7488 in July 1963 ORER. Series #7190-7488. Photo in Railway Prototype Cyclopedia Volume 12 on p75 (car 7287).
7489-7996 XM. 40' Single Sheathed Box w/12' 6" Door Opening. Class XA-11A. Built 1927 by Pullman. No Cars on Roster in January 1966 ORER. One Car Listed in July 1963 ORER.

A friend of mine sent me a photo that had CB&Q 7325 in the train.  It’s obviously a fifty foot boxcar that was originally in automobile service, but had the leading digit removed when put into general service.  It has ends similar to the XA-14 class cars, the 3-3-3 dreadnaught ends, but has wooden doors on the side.  Anyone have a clue as to what the original number of the car might have been, or which class of car it might have been assigned to on the Q?  The photograph was probably taken late 1950’s t0 1962 based on other things in the image.

I would post the image, but I don’t know where my friend found it, and have no way of knowing who holds the copyright on the image, so I can’t put it on the list.
