The Q started putting Mars lights on the waycars as early as 1945 when several steel cars were given train radios and painted Omaha orange to be used on time freights between Chicago and Denver. I’m building two of the Q Connection NE-10 waycars, and they have Mars lights. They aren’t jerry-rigged. They became standard equipment in the mid-1950.
