Per the standard reference works, the research of the late Bob Stanage (our premier Q china collector) and as 50 yr collectors of Q china, V&D was indeed the primary Q china pattern for decades up to & including BN which chose it to be 'their' china as there was far more in stock @ the constituent commissaries than GN or NP's. The forerunner to V&D was Violet Spray, similar in appearance, followed by the early imported 'bone' china & then the heavy restaurant grade American-made. Date codes tell you whether it's pre-Amtrak. As common as V&D was & is, there are rare pieces such as the compartmentalized dinner plate & some accessory pieces. Gerald
