If you're interested in the why and how of the Burlington Northern merger, and the management decisions of BN up until 1995 (and the purchase of the Santa Fe), you might want to purchase two new books by Earl Currie available at the Washington State University Press website (see above):

The books are a culmination of five years of work by Earl.  For those of you who know him or have attended his numerous presentations on railroad history, you will all the more find these works exceptionally detailed and enlightening, made more so from someone who was in the thick of it as a company officer with BN.

2020 will mark 50 years since the formation of Burlington Northern, and how fortunate we are to have someone who took the painstaking time to document its interesting, groundbreaking - and at times tumultuous - history.

The books can be purchased for as little as $65 (for both books) paperback.
