All -  The ICC classified empty but used dynamite boxes as "explosive".  Enough nitro could seep out of the dynamite sticks to impregnate the wood and render it dangerous.  This from my late brother-in-law who got out of Missouri School of Mines and went to work for DuPont as a dynamite setter in quarries. When ammonium nitrate+fuel oil became popular he shifted over to DuPont's Lycra/Spandex division and finished out his career in women's underwear.   PAW

Looks like it contained handkerchiefs.  The box looks relatively new and if contained anything other than handerkerchiefs it would more than likely say so.  Dynamite is probably a brand name. The artwork looks a little too modern to be anything else.

Some years ago an elderly neighbor passed away. He had worked for the Burlington his entire life. His wife sorted out his possessions and had a yard sale of items she did not want. One of them was a small crate-like box that had stenciled on it “DYNAMITE HANKERCHIEFS”. I asked her what it was and she said something to do with his work. I bought it and have been trying to find out just what it contained. Would anyone have any knowledge of this. I’m attaching a photo. Thanks.
