Yes, during the drought years 1953-1955, some of the TM-3's were used as "water bottles" on the Beardstown Division. Later they were used on the B&O line from Shuttac to East St. Louis, after the B&O got rid of the water tanks. BB 35 has
pictures.
From the CB&Q Freight Car book by Spoor, in 1911, the CB&Q received 107 10,000 gallon tank cars from American Car & Foundry. The FW&D received
150 the same year. Does anyone know if the paint scheme changed over time? Attached are 2 photos of an O scale version of the tank car.
Also, does anyone know if these tank cars, which were primarily used in fuel and lube service, were ever used as water bottles with steam locomotives?
