While I model 1965-Merger the following might be helpful. Assume you mean Empire Builder. Most power I noted from photos is E8's or E9's. However, here are some exceptions:

October 22, 1965 the westbound EB had three E7A's as power. The photo is in CB&Q in Color Vol 2 page 37.

October 3, 1967 the combined NCL/EB had three E8/9A's followed by a single E7A facing backwards (by this time most power was elephant style). The photo is in CB&Q in Color Vol 2 page 90.

If you don't have a copy of CB&Q in Color Volume 2 I suggest you try to find one. I did not document the pre-1965 photos since that is not my era, but you will find plenty of photos pre-1965 and probably EB photos documenting the power used.

I do show E7A's on the TCZ, Blackhawk, etc., but by 1965 they were pretty rare photographically on the primary passenger trains. Mostly E8/9A's were used on trains like the EB, NCL, etc.
