Indeed the area north of the old Hwy #61 bridge approach is the location for this 1960 slide. To the right of the slide is the old privately-owned two lane toll bridge locally known as the Eagle Point Bridge as it's west end was at the foot of Eagle Point
park. It was replaced by a state owned bridge about a 1/2 mile south in the early 1980's. The area where the photographer stood was popular as it's among the rare places on the former CB&N aka La Crosse Div line from Savanna to Twin Cities where you can
stand west of the tracks & get a good pic with the bluffs aka coulees in the background. Otherwise much of the trackage hugs the bluffs & you need to be ina boat or have a good long lens from the IA & MN sides of the Mississippi.. The Lock & Dam is behind
the photographer - if you hike out there (the old bridge approach is partially intact due to camping area and summer homes) you can spot where a temp spur was laid to carry construction material to the Lock & Dam in the 1930's. It's also a good place to spot
bald eagles and for Milw fans, to photo their line on the Iowa side. Gerald - a former Dubuquer
